Holy blackout, Batman!
On Wednesday, Maryland men’s basketball takes on the Butler Bulldogs in the now-annual blackout game at Xfinity Center. But this year, it’s got a dark twist — the Dark Knight, specifically.
The game is Batman-themed, with a free custom cape giveaway for the first 2,000 students in attendance. In addition, the normal newspapers for the opponent introductions will be — you guessed it — Batman-themed.
He has been signaled…
On Wednesday, a hero will rise.

There will also be a Poison Ivy twirler during halftime, and Batman will be available for photos on the concourse.
In last season’s blackout game, the Terps squeaked out a 71-70 win over Oklahoma State after Melo Trimble sank two clutch free throws with nine seconds to go. The Cowboys thought they had a game-winning buzzer beater, but it was waved off upon further review.
Both Butler and Maryland come into this year’s game unranked at 2-0. In the most recent AP Poll, each team received votes, with the Bulldogs just ahead of the Terps, 6-2.

The shell signal isn’t the bat signal, and Butler isn’t the Joker, but either way, we will be looking for justice on Wednesday.
