University of Maryland Police is charging a D.C. teen as an adult in connection with an assault that took place on the campus in October, according to a news release.
Sterling Dennis Walker, 16, is being tried as an adult on charges of first- and second-degree assault.
On Oct. 6, a man struck a University of Maryland student with a baseball bat while passing Campus Drive near Stamp Student Union. Two male students were walking along Campus Drive when they got into a verbal altercation with a passing car.
A man got out of the car and began following the students before going back to the car to get a baseball bat. After exchanging words with the students, the suspect struck one of them.
The passenger then got into the car and left the scene, driving toward Route 1. The student who was struck was taken to a local hospital and was later released. Police responded to the scene at about 10:56 p.m.
