Running back Ty Johnson was named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in Maryland football’s 62-14 loss to then-No. 10 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon.

The burst was Johnson’s lone career kick return touchdown and Maryland’s first 100-yard return since Will Likely’s in 2015. This is Johnson’s second career Big Ten weekly honor after earning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week last October.
Johnson is averaging 28.6 yards per kick return this season, but most of his contributions have come on the ground. The junior rushed for over 120 yards in each of Maryland’s three wins.
Johnson is the second Maryland player to earn a conference weekly award this season, as defensive back Antoine Brooks was tabbed co-Special Teams Player of the Week in September.
