COLUMBUS, Ohio — Maryland football linebacker Shane Cockerille was not allowed to travel with the team for its Saturday contest against No. 10 Ohio State.
Coach DJ Durkin indicated the linebacker broke the strict set of behavioral guidelines the program set for him after he missed the 2016 Quick Lane Bowl for an undisclosed code of conduct violation.
“[It’s] a lot of the same issues we’ve been dealing with,” Durkin said. “I’ve always said he’s really day-to-day with the program, and he’s done some things that aren’t in line with what we set out for him to be an active member of the program.”
Cockerille ranked second on the team with 26 tackles through the first four games this season. The senior also recorded two pass deflections and a tackle for a loss.
Last year, Cockerille amassed 108 tackles and three sacks. Durkin did not provide a timeline for when he might return.
