The Maryland men’s lacrosse team claimed the No. 1-seed in the NCAA tournament during Sunday night’s selection show. The Terps will face the winner of Bryant and Monmouth on Sunday afternoon.
It’s the NCAA-best 15th straight time Maryland has made the tournament and the second time in a row it’s entered as the top seed. But while the Terps have made three straight final fours and back-to-back national championship appearances, they haven’t won the title since 1975.
Bryant went 10-7 this year in the NEC, while Monmouth went 14-3 out of the MAAC.
After dropping consecutive games to Notre Dame and Villanova in March, Maryland has won eight of its past nine contests, a stretch that included a Big Ten regular season title and Big Ten conference tournament title.
The Terps’ offense has scored 12.53 goals per game this season, registering double-digit conversions in 13 of their 15 contests. Midfielder Connor Kelly has scored a team-high 37 goals, while attackman Matt Rambo has notched 67 points on 34 goals and 33 assists.
