It’s been one week since Maryland’s star point guard declared for the draft – and he has been interestingly silent since his big announcement.

Today, however, Melo Trimble spoke about his decision and what he thinks he needs to work on to improve his draft stock on ESPN 980.

He said he was motivated by a feeling that he had done all he could do as a Terrapin.

“I felt there was no more else I could do at the university and I did all I could,” Trimble said in his interview. “I went to the tournament all three years and averaged about the same amount of numbers and we were over .500 every year.”

He also noted that while he considered leaving after his freshman year, he felt he wasn’t ready.

“The point guard I wanted to be is the point guard I am now,” he added.

As for what Trimble thinks he needs to work on, his answer was simple: shooting.

“That’s my number one priority,” he said.

Besides shooting, Trimble also said that he wants to get better at scoring against defenders one-on-one, noting he did most of his scoring off pick-and-roll plays last season.

DraftExpress currently has Trimble as the 92nd-best prospect in the draft, which would project him to be undrafted.
