Maryland men’s lacrosse defender Tim Muller was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and goalkeeper Dan Morris was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week for their roles in a 15-7 win over North Carolina on Saturday.
Muller scored the opening goal and picked up three ground balls, helping the Terps limit the Tar Heels to seven scores. The senior has earned five career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Morris, meanwhile, notched his first-ever conference distinction after he made 12 saves in the victory. He ranks second in the Big Ten with 10.86 saves per game.
While No. 9 Maryland committed three unnecessary roughness penalties, Muller and Morris contributed to short-handed defensive success. The Tar Heels went just 1-for-3 on man-up opportunities, and this season, the Terps are top ten in the nation with only four man-down scores allowed.
Maryland lost consecutive games entering the tilt with the Tar Heels but rebounded with their biggest margin of victory since Feb. 18. The squad will attempt to build on that result at Maryland Stadium on Saturday against No. 19 Michigan.
