Maryland women’s lacrosse midfielder Kali Hartshorn is the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Hartshorn’s selection continues the Terps’ streak of at least one player earning a weekly award since the start of the season.
The Allentown, New Jersey, native received the honor for the second time this season after recording six goals and one assist in wins against No. 9 Penn and James Madison. She also won two weeks ago, while attacker Brindi Griffin was the Big Ten’s top rookie last week.
Hartshorn, who’s fourth on the team with 18 goals, was also named Inside Lacrosse’s National Rookie of the Week.
Hartshorn, who has replaced former star midfielder Taylor Cummings on draws, played an instrumental role in the No. 1 Terps’ (9-0) victories with a combined 11 draws. It extended her team-leading total to 47, at least 25 more than the next Terp.
Hartshorn will look to add to the production when the Terps host No. 3 Florida, which is tied for seventh in the country in average draws, on Wednesday.
