The Maryland baseball team is still considering midweek starters, and coach John Szefc said right-hander John Murphy is a candidate to start Wednesday’s contest against Saint Joseph’s.
Right-handers Cameron Enck and Hunter Parsons struggled in their early midweek outings, which caused Szefc to start right-hander Mike Rescigno and left-hander Tayler Stiles in the Terps’ two-game series against UNC Wilmington last week.
But neither Rescigno nor Stiles made it beyond the third inning.
Murphy, who made eight appearances and two starts with a 9.82 ERA last season, tossed two scoreless innings Sunday.
“One thing about him is he usually throws strikes,” Szefc said. “You don’t usually see him go ball, ball, ball. In college baseball, that’s a big problem, getting ahead of hitters.”
