The Maryland women’s lacrosse team swept the Big Ten’s three weekly awards, the conference announced Tuesday.
Goalkeeper Megan Taylor grabbed Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, attacker Megan Whittle earned Offensive Player of the Week and midfielder Kali Hartshorn is the Freshman of the Week.
The award was Taylor’s fourth in five weeks this season after several impressive performances for the No. 1 Terps (6-0). Her 18 saves against Syracuse on Saturday were a career-high, and also garnered her Epoch/US Lacrosse Magazine’s National Player of the Week recognition.
Whittle won the offensive award for the second time this season after notching a combined 10 goals and one assist in Maryland’s games last week against Boston College and the Orange. Her seven goals against Syracuse set a career-best, and she leads the team with 21 scores this season.
Hartshorn has been the lone true freshman to start for the Terps this season, opening all six contests on the field. She posted her two best offensive performances of the season last week, with three goals and one assist against Boston College and four goals and an assist against Syracuse. She also controlled a team-high 12 draws over the two outings.
She was named Inside Lacrosse Women’s National Co-Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, too.
The awards sweep is the Terps’ first of the season. They’ll look to build off the dominance when they host Johns Hopkins on Sunday.
