Maryland women’s lacrosse goalkeeper Megan Taylor added to her hoard of awards on Monday as she was named Epoch/US Lacrosse Magazine’s National Player of the Week.
Taylor, last season’s Big Ten Goaltender of the Year, has taken home three Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors, and could see another one come her way on Tuesday.
The sophomore made seven saves in a victory over Boston College on Wednesday, and nearly tripled that total on Saturday. In No. 1 Maryland’s 17-7 victory over then-No. 4 Syracuse, Taylor stopped a career-high 18 shots, including eight saves on free position shots, forcing the Orange to go 1-13 from the 8-meter arc. She saved nearly 75 percent of Syracuse’s shots on target.
After the game, coach Cathy Reese said Taylor’s performance was “something insane,” and said the goalie is “just a stud.” Attacker Megan Whittle called her “unbelievable.”
Taylor will look to extend her run of strong performances when the Terps host Johns Hopkins on Sunday.
