The Maryland gymnastics team’s concluded its regular season with a season-high score Wednesday night in the Maryland Five Meet against New Hampshire, Temple, William & Mary and West Chester.
The Terps netted a 195.800, besting No. 29 New Hampshire by .525.
“I can’t believe it’s gone this fast,” said freshman Kirsten Peterman earlier this week of her first season in a Maryland uniform.
The Terps claimed the two of the top three all-around spots. Freshman Alecia Farina won with a 39.225, including 9.825s on bars and floor, while Peterman placed third with a 39.125.
For the second consecutive meet, the Terps didn’t suffer a fall. Their top event score came with a 49.125 on floor, where four gymnasts posted at least a 9.825.
The Terps celebrated Senior Day last weekend, but senior Sarah Faller anticipated Wednesday’s meet would be more emotional because her parents drove from Raleigh, North Carolina.
“It’s crazy,” Faller said at practice on Tuesday. “The fact that it’s the last one is insane for me.”
Faller, who scored 9.775s on vault and bars and posted a 9.65 on beam, spoke proudly of her career at Maryland.
“When I came in, I loved the team, but I’ve learned so much and I think this team has too,” she said. “Even though last year didn’t end the way we wanted it to, I think it was so great because we learned so much. We never want to let [missing an NCAA regional] happen again.”
