In the NFL, pileups are common. When a running back attempts to break through a crowded group of players or a ball falls loose and there’s a fight for it, you’ll often see a bunch of guys in a giant scrum. And most of the time, referees allow those scrums to carry on without much interference.
An exception to that statement came during Sunday’s Vikings-Eagles game. A very strange exception, too.
Early on in the contest, some members of Minnesota’s offense and Philadelphia’s defense met in the end zone following an interception, including ex-Terp Stefon Diggs. Per usual, there was some routine pushing and shoving going on, but one overzealous zebra decided he wanted to put an end to it.
So he went after Diggs. Hard.
