The Maryland basketball team’s first commitment for the Class of 2017 is four-star forward Bruno Fernando, who pledged to the Terps on Sunday afternoon, according to multiple outlets.
The 6-foot-10, 225-pound senior from IMG Academy is the seventh-best center and the No. 71 player in the country, according to 247Sports. He’ll bolster a frontcourt that will lose forwards L.G. Gill, a graduate transfer from Duquesne, and Damonte Dodd after this season.
The Angola native originally committed to SMU for the Class of 2016. He later decided to play a post-graduate year at IMG Academy and reopened his commitment.
After taking an official visit at Maryland this weekend, Fernando decided to join coach Mark Turgeon’s program.
