This year’s edition of Maryland madness, the event that introduces the men’s and women’s basketball teams, is set for Oct. 14 and the Xfinity Center.

If you’ve never seen Maryland Madness, here’s a quick synopsis of what usually happens: All of the basketball players come out, some dancing happens, then it continues with events related to the theme. Judging by what Maryland Athletics has put on the Internet, this year’s theme looks to be SportsCenter. (Which sounds like a pretty great choice because this event tends to be a bit boring sometimes.)

There’s a notable SportsCenter anchor who happened to attend Maryland: Scott Van Pelt. We all started to speculate he could be involved in the event, but he shut that down pretty quickly.

Oh well.

Here’s a basic rundown of what’s going to happen during the event:

A “dunk contest, 3-point contest & much more” sounds like it should beat out last year’s magic theme, at least for basketball fans. We should be in for a good time.

Side note: Jake Layman would have owned the dunk contest.

Oh, and get ready to see another version of this once we get closer to the actual season:
