For those who aren’t pleased with the way Maryland football has looked the past few years, a quick trip to Howard football’s website will remind you of something very important: It could always be worse.
As in having an open tryout three days before your first game of the season worse.
Check this banner out, which is currently sitting on HUBison.com
“The Howard University football team will hold tryouts on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. in Greene Stadium,” it says underneath the graphic. “All participants must have completed a medical physical and bring the form, which must be filled out by the primary physician, with them. All are asked to meet on the field and dress appropriately in cleats and athletic gear. Also, please bring water.”
That is something that was actually written by Howard Athletics, and the tryout was scheduled just 70 hours before the Bison kick off against the Terrapins.
Let’s read it again. The absurdity of it all truly shows on the second read through.
“All participants must have completed a medical physical.” “All are asked to meet on the field and dress appropriately in cleats and athletic gear.” “Also, please bring water.”
PLEASE. BRING. WATER.
It sounds like what a high school would post before hosting JV volleyball tryouts.
Its worth pointing out that the team’s roster looks plenty big, standing at over 90 players already, which brings up the question of why this is all necessary. They did go 1-10 in 2015, however, so putting an event like this together and seeing if a random sociology major shows up and displays nice pocket presence can’t hurt.
With that being said, it’s still ridiculous. Conscious of dehydration, sure, but still completely ridiculous.
