In the world of sports, there are many questions that sports fans discuss endlessly. Kobe or LeBron? Messi or Ronaldo? Crosby or Ovechkin? How did the Warriors blow a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals?
However, there is no question that produces more passionate debates than the discussion over the Baltimore Ravens quarterback.
Is Joe Flacco an elite QB?
At Maryland football’s media day, I had the chance to speak with two people who are experts on the position: Terps quarterbacks Max Bortenschlager and Perry Hills.
Bortenschlager, who’s a true freshman, believes Flacco is indeed elite.
“Yeah, definitely. He’s made it to the highest level, he’s won a Super Bowl,” Bortenschlager said. “I consider him a pretty elite one for sure. He’s got a big arm. He’s a pretty good athlete and a big guy. I definitely look up to him.”
Bortenschlager is a Colts fan and would personally know about Flacco’s success as a quarterback. Flacco and the Ravens eliminated the Colts from the playoffs on their way to winning Super Bowl XLVII.
Hills, a Pittsburgh native, reached a different verdict on Flacco.
“I’m going to have to say no. Because you know Baltimore and Pittsburgh don’t kind of match together,” he said.
Hills thinks Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is among the NFL’s elite. “He has plenty of Super Bowl rings,” he explained.
Whether it be regular fans or Maryland’s quarterbacks, the debate over Flacco continues to rage on.
