Terrapins football outside linebacker Marcus Whitfield and cornerback Dexter McDougle were honored by the ACC on Monday with weekly player of the week honors. Whitfield was named Linebacker of the Week, while McDougle came away with Defensive Back of the Week honors.
In the Terps’ 32-21 win over Connecticut at Rentschler Field, Whitfield recorded three sacks. He pressured UConn quarterback Chandler Whitmer multiple times and, along with fellow outside linebacker Yannik Cudjoe-Virgil, forced an intentional grounding penalty in the end zone for a safety in the fourth quarter.
McDougle had eight tackles and two interceptions Saturday. His first interception in the first quarter was a diving attempt down the sideline. He returned his second pick 49 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to give the Terps a 27-13 lead.
On the next series, though, he suffered a shoulder injury that requires surgery and will sideline him for the rest of the season, ending his college career.
The Terps face West Virginia on Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
