For the second straight season the Terrapins women’s lacrosse team is the No. 1-seed in the NCAA tournament.

The Terps (19-1) earned a bye in the first round and will play the winner of Canisius (12-6) and Penn (12-4) on Sunday May 11 at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The Terps defeated Penn, 15-5, in Philadelphia on March 15 and didn’t play Canisius this season.

The appearance marks the 25th consecutive for the Terps and 30th in program history. The Terps’ 10 NCAA titles are the most of any school with the most recent coming in 2010.

The Terps are one of seven schools from the ACC in the 26-team field. Six of the eight seeded teams came from the ACC and the top three teams are from the conference.

With North Carolina earning the No. 3 seed, the teams could potentially meet in the championship game on May 25 for a rematch after last year’s triple-OT thriller. Syracuse earned the No. 2 seed and could also meet the Terps in the final game, which would be a rematch of the ACC championship game.
