Byrd Stadium, College Park, Md.

Kickoff: Noon
Keys to the game:
Terrapins:
– Sweet emotion: After handing Clemson 75 yards on personal fouls last week, the Terps must harness their intensity in the face of a raucous Byrd Stadium crowd. Both teams view this match-up as a rivalry, but the Terps must realize that their boldest statements have come on the scoreboard in previous lopsided wins against the Mountaineers.
– Mix it up: West Virginia uses a “stack” 3-5-3 defensive scheme that can make it difficult for teams to run the ball. The Terps must balance their run and pass games to knock the Mountaineers back on their heels and move the ball. Coach Ralph Friedgen said this week he thinks quarterback Sam Hollenbach can make a difference with his feet by scrambling for yardage when the opposing defense drops back into coverage. Maybe this will be the week he does so.
– Power hour: The Terps have yet to put together 60 minutes of solid play. After getting off to a slow start against Navy they fell apart in the final seven minutes against Clemson. If the Terps minimize their mistakes over an entire game, Friedgen said he is confident they will be successful.
West Virginia:
– More take than give: Coach Rich Rodriguez said he believes turnovers were the difference between his team’s 19-16 win last season and their losses in four previous games against the Terps.
Joel Statham tossed three interceptions in the meeting a year ago, and West Virginia hopes to confuse Sam Hollenbach with its scheme. Hollenbach has been more careful with the ball than his predecessor, but he has been picked off three times this season.
– Maintain continuity: With dueling quarterbacks, the Mountaineers must make sure to play the hot hand when it comes to crunch time. Pat White headlined their effort against Wofford this past week, while Adam Bednarik paced the offense in Syracuse.
Both quarterbacks can run – which may pose a problem for the Terps – and their freshness could also add trouble toward the end of the game.
