The University of Maryland Boxing Club held their fourth annual Maryland Boxing Invitational on Saturday night in Ritchie Coliseum. The “Rumble at Ritchie” featured boxers from 10 other schools.
Of the 15 bouts in the evening competition, all but one featured a student from this university.
Luke Runion, a 2008 university graduate, started the boxing club as an undergraduate in 2005 and, two years later, received permission to begin holding the invitational. The event has continued to grow each year.
Because of the popularity of the annual tournament, the university was also selected to hold last year’s National Collegiate Boxing Association Championship.
