During our time in college, we are forced to read many different books for class. Some are entertaining, some are important and some just plain suck. But the one book everyone should read on his or her own time is the Bible. Regardless of your religious beliefs, or lack thereof, the Bible contains one of the most entertaining stories ever told and deserves to be read and talked about.
Want murder, sex, war, lust and poetry? The Bible has them. How about dragons, trippy dreams about the future, demons and the sun stopping time? Well, guess what. The Bible has all of that too. But it’s not just the stories that make the Bible entertaining.
The characters within the Bible are some of the most interesting in all of history. They are relatable in their flaws and entertaining in their interactions, and they force us as readers to examine ourselves from the inside out. What more could you want from a piece of literature? Sure, there are some slow passages in the Bible. And yes, it can be confusing, but so were the last three seasons of Lost.
If for none of these reasons, the Bible deserves to be read simply for the impact it has had on our world. Forget the New York Times Best Sellers list; this is the best-seller of all time. So give it a chance. Let go of any preconceived notions, and have a good read. What do you have to lose?
