Wide receiver Lavern Jacobs catches a pass during the Terps’ 29-26 loss to Boston College on Nov. 23, 2013.

Terrapins football linebacker Alex Twine and wide receiver Levern Jacobs were charged Thursday with second-degree assault, according to state court records.

The alleged incident occurred July 19. Twine was arrested Thursday and ordered to appear in district court on October, while Jacobs was summoned.

The Terps have not leveled disciplinary sanctions on either players as of yet, and both had been full participants in preseason camp.

Twine, a senior, is a key backup at linebacker, a four-year contributor and one of the Terps’ top special teams players. Jacobs led the Terps with 47 catches and 640 receiving yards last season and seemed in line for a starting job this year.

Jacobs had been earning praise from coach Randy Edsall for his work ethic during camp, and last season Edsall commended Twine for his commitment to special teams.
