Guard Jaylen Brantley answers questions from the media when the Terps hosted Media Day on October 20, 2015.

Next time something goes missing, the Terrapins men’s basketball team has two guys who might be able to find it.

If basketball doesn’t work out as a career, Maryland newcomers and roommates Jaylen Brantley and Kent Auslander are both interested in becoming police detectives.

Each says he got his inspiration to become a criminal justice major from watching detective shows.

“[Law & Order:] SVU, I liked Psych a lot, Monk was pretty cool, just all those police shows kind of got me interested in it,” said Auslander, a freshman criminology and criminal justice major and walk-on guard.

“All I really watch is Criminal Minds, Forensic Files, Law & Order, stuff like that is really interesting to me,” said Brantley, a sophomore transfer point guard from Odessa Community College in Texas.

Brantley’s favorite TV detective is Agent Hotchner from Criminal Minds, while Auslander’s No. 1 crime-solver is Elliot Stabler from Law & Order: SVU.

Neither was aware of the other’s aspirations before someone pointed it out to them at media day Tuesday, so it looks like the two haven’t banded together to start sleuthing around just yet. However, the two seem to have similar interests when it comes to what they would want to investigate.

What crimes would they want to solve?

“Murders,” Brantley said. Auslander echoed those comments, adding, “Homicide’s definitely the most interesting,”

They haven’t had to solve any cases yet, but the team only started practicing 13 days ago, so who knows what could happen. Maybe we’ll see the roommates help solve the mystery of why the Terps aren’t ranked No. 1.

“That sounds like the start of a good sitcom or something,” fellow walk-on guard Trevor Anzmann said.

It’d probably be better than True Detective season two.
