The Terrapins women’s soccer team is set to kickoff this evening’s action against Virginia Tech at Ludwig Field in about 15 minutes. The Terps come into tonight’s game having lost their last game at Virginia 4-1. The Hokies come in after defeating Appalachian State by a score of 4-0 on Thursday as well.
The Terps are looking to rebound from the disappointing result at Virginia, where their offense couldn’t get going and the stalwart defense fans had seen all year was nowhere to be found.
One storyline that continues to be watched is the absence of forward Jasmyne Spencer, who suffered rib and head injuries against James Madison a week ago tonight. The Terps struggled in her absence, but hope the depth of the roster comes through tonight.
The Hokies are 8-1-0 on the year and are opening their ACC slate tonight. The team boasts midfielder Kelly Conheeney, who ranks third in the ACC with 20 points and tied for second with nine goals, and forward Jazmine Reeves, who leads the conference with seven assists. Goalkeeper Dayle Colpitts has played 316 minutes over five games this year and has yet to allow a goal.
The Terps were ranked No. 6 in the NSCAA Top 25 poll from Sept. 13, while Virginia Tech was unranked. In the Soccer America Top 25 poll from Sept. 12, the Terps were ranked No. 7 while Virginia Tech was ranked No. 20.
