The last time the Terrapins women’s soccer team faced Miami, the referees doled out three red cards, three yellow cards and called 29 fouls.

Forward Hayley Brock was suspended alongside Miami’s Maddie Simms and Kate Howarth for their next two games after a brawl broke out between the two teams. Brock was taken down around midfield in the 87th minute and she hopped up to retaliate, making the already tense game even more heated. Both teams and even a few fans joined in, pushing and pulling hair on the pitch that Thursday night.

Brock, Simms and Howarth were awarded red cards and the Terps lost 1-0 after an overtime goal from Jordan Roseboro.

Brock, who leads the Terps in goals and assists, sat her first game in a 1-0 loss to Florida State on Oct. 21. She’ll sit her second on Sunday when her team, again, takes on Miami in the first round of the ACC tournament at Ludwig Field just a mere 10 days after the melee broke out in College Park.

Simms and Howarth will play Sunday afternoon, as they have already sat out of two matches — a tie against Boston College and a victory over Florida State.

The Terps finished the season with the No. 2 seed in the conference while the Hurricanes finished in seventh. The Terps will host the Hurricanes Sunday just three days after Miami uprooted Florida State, the No. 1 team in the nation, 1-0.
