Midfiedler John Stertzer dribbles past Georgetown’s Steve Neumann in the Terps’ College Cup matchup on Dec. 7.

Two former Terrapins men’s soccer team standouts will continue their careers after being selected in the MLS SuperDraft today.

Real Salt Lake selected midfielder John Stertzer with the 12th pick of the draft. Five selections later, defender Taylor Kemp went off the board to D.C. United. It was the 10th straight season the Terps had a player selected in the draft.

Stertzer recorded NSCAA Third Team All-America and first-team All-ACC honors as both a junior and senior, scored 21 goals and notched 11 assists during those two seasons. He started 21 games in 2012 and played in 23 of the Terps’ 24 contests.

Kemp battled injury in 2012, playing in just half of the Terps’ matches. In midseason, he flew to Germany to have sports hernia surgery. Nonetheless, he still earned second-team All-ACC honors and was tied for fourth on the team with six assists. Kemp, a Highlands Ranch, Colo., native, was a four-year starter for the Terps.

“We are thrilled for John and Taylor as they take their soccer careers to the next level,” coach Sasho Cirovski said in a release. “They were both tremendous assets to our program for the last four years, and we are confident they will make Terp Nation very proud at Real Salt Lake and D.C. United.”

The third member of the Terps’ senior class, defender London Woodberry, signed a Homegrown contract with FC Dallas earlier this month.
