If the Terrapins volleyball team was looking for a defining match, it got one Friday night.

After four grueling back-and-forth sets with a talented Georgia Tech team sent the match into a decided fifth set, the Terps took control. The Terps would cruise to a 15-7 victory in the final frame and secure a 3-2 win, their first ACC win since Sept. 30.

The Terps (12-12, 3-9 ACC) lost the first set, which was tied on 15 different occasions, 31-29. But the squad would respond and easily take the next two sets. Georgia Tech (15-8, 6-6) won the forth set, but all that did was set the stage for the Terp’s dominating performance in the fifth set.

Mary Cushman and Ashleigh Crutcher led the way with 20 kills apiece, helping the Terps win their second straight game. The Terps will hope to ride the momentum from Friday into Sunday, when Clemson (14-8, 5-6) visits Comcast Pavilion.
