Guard Melo Trimble relaxes while watching a Georgetown free throw while Terps were down during the second half when the Terps defeated Georgetown 75-71 in Xfinity Center on Nov. 17, 2015.

During a timeout at the Maryland men’s basketball team’s recent game against Georgetown, the Jumbotron at Xfinity Center showed players being asked: What is Maryland known for?

One answered Old Bay and crabs. Another said crabs cakes.

Guard Melo Trimble’s response? Basketball.

And it seems as though he might be right.

For the first time in school history, both the Terps men’s and women’s teams are ranked in the top five. The men sit at No. 2 in the Associated Press poll, while the women check in at No. 5.

The last time the men’s team was ranked as high was in March 2002 — the same year the Terps won its first and only national title.

The highest the women’s team has ever finished a season is No. 3.
