The Terrapins women’s lacrosse team is ranked fourth in the nation in the preseason Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association poll.
The defending ACC champions boast nine returning starters, including Tewaarton Award winner Katie Schwarzmann. The senior midfielder notched 72 goals and 22 assists during the 2012 campaign.
Schwarzmann will be accompanied by fellow seniors and All-Americans defender Illiana Sanza and midfielder Alex Aust, who recorded five goals in the Terps 19-8 exhibition annihilation of Japan.
Defending national champion Northwestern tops the list. The Wildcats have eliminated Cathy Reese’s squad in each of the past two final fours.
The Terps open regular-season play Sunday at Richmond.
