Two days after the Terrapins women’s soccer team gave up a late goal to Michigan in an eventual 1-0 defeat, they settled for a scoreless draw against Michigan State on Sunday afternoon at Ludwig Field.

Similar to their match with the Wolverines, the Terps did not have any success attacking the goal early on. In the first half, they went without a shot on goal.

The Terps didn’t attempt their first shot on goal until the 54th minute. Forward Alex Doody fed midfielder Lauren Berman near the goal, but Berman’s shot trickled to goalkeeper Courtney Clem.

After that, much of the game was spent around the Spartans net. The Terps outshot Michigan State 11-5 in the second half and took three shots on target.

Though the Terps put themselves in a position to net a few goals, they failed to beat Clem. After 90 minutes, neither team scored, forcing the contest into extra time.

The Terps (3-3-2, 1-1-1) nearly escaped with the victory in the first overtime period. After receiving a pass from forward Shade Pratt, midfielder Sarah Fichtner took a shot that got away from Clem. However, as the ball was about to roll over the end line to cement a Terps’ victory, Clem somehow got her hands on it to make the save.

In the second overtime period, the Spartans (6-3-1, 0-3-1) had chances to steal a win, but goalkeeper Rachelle Beanlands remained steady in net.

This is the first scoreless tie for the Terps since August of 2012 against Villanova.
