THE DARK KNIGHT

It may go down in history that we define superhero movies as pre-The Dark Knight and post-The Dark Knight – the movie redefined caped crusader films, while earning more than $500 million at the U.S. box office. If you lived under a rock this summer and somehow didn’t see The Dark Knight, get yourself to Hoff Theater this week – you’re doing a disservice to yourself and others by not seeing it on the big screen. If you’re saving up for the DVD, you may want to wait – it’s out on Dec. 9.

SHOWTIMES: Today, noon, 3:30 p.m.; Thursday, noon, 3:30 p.m., 10 p.m.

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL

We can’t really recommend this movie, but it is free, so why not? Somehow Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford decided it was a good idea to bring Indiana Jones back for another go, and to throw Shia LaBeouf in for good measure. Perhaps the best deterrent was the South Park episode “The China Problem,” which aired last month. We won’t reveal the punch line, but creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone must have really hated this movie for the reaction they had.

SHOWTIME: Friday, 5 p.m, free.

BABY MAMA

Baby Mama is one of those comedies that’s easy to forget. It doesn’t leave too much of an impression, and it came out in the spring, just before the blockbuster summer films – and, it was pre-Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. But Baby Mama shouldn’t be completely overlooked. Fey and recent baby mama Amy Poehler work as a perfect comedic team, delivering cheap, but sometimes sophisticated, laughs.

SHOWTIME: Sunday, 7 p.m., free.
