The Terps only needed five innings to put away winless Rhode Island at the James Madison University Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Saturday afternoon.

Catcher Shannon Bustillos and utility player Bridget Hawvermale went a combined 5-for-7 and drove in 11 runs to propel the Terps to an 18-3 mercy-rule victory. Bustillos and Hawvermale also cleared the fences for a home run.

Kaitlyn Schmeiser pitched two scoreless innings. Pitchers Jaymi Bautista-Geieger and Brenna Nation appeared as relief pitchers thorugh the rest of the game, marking their first action on the mound this season.

With the win, the team improved to 13-8 on the season. They’ll face off with Stony Brook at noon tomorrow and play James Madison in a nightcap.
