Terrapin men’s basketball coach Gary Williams would not confirm a report last night from TerrapinTimes.com that forward Dino Gregory, currently serving a team-mandated suspension, will be eligible to return to the court Dec. 12.
“I’ll address that situation [today],” Williams said. “I’m still discussing some things with the university.”
The team is scheduled to hold a media availibility session this afternoon, a regular practice the day before games. The Terps (2-0) host New Hampshire tomorrow night at Comcast Center.
The circumstances surrounding Gregory’s suspension remain unclear. The junior from Baltimore knew he was facing an academic dishonesty charge this summer, according to a report from The Washington Post.
It is unknown whether the current suspension is related to that charge.
Last season, Gregory filled an important defensive and rebounding role off the bench, averaging 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 points per game, to go along with 34 blocks. With center Steve Goins’ knee injury and forward Jin Soo Choi’s ankle injury, the Terps were left with three scholarship forwards for Tuesday’s win against Fairfield.
If Gregory is able to return Dec. 12, his first game back will be against Eastern Kentucky, after next week’s Maui Invitational and the Terps’ key nonconference matchup against Villanova on Dec. 6 in the BB&T Classic.
