City could offer visitor permits for Knox area parking
Less than a month after College Park introduced resident-only street parking for the Knox Box area, District 3 Councilman Andy Fellows is suggesting that the city consider introducing visitor parking passes.
The city council will consider the modification at tomorrow night’s meeting.
The restrictions that went into effect Sept. 1 allowed each Knox Box unit one street parking permit, but anyone parking there without a permit is subject to a $35 ticket.
Student residents have complained that the permit requirement makes it too difficult to have guests, though city officials have argued that the guests can use a house’s driveway space.
Residential Facilities moves to bring air conditioning to dorms
North Campus dorm residents are a step closer to cooling off.
The Department of Residential Facilities recently selected a designing firm to draw up plans for a new satellite central utility building, or SCUB, that will hold the dorms’ central air conditioner when facilities starts adding the units in a few years, said Jon Dooley, the department’s director.
Don’t expect air conditioning to help students through the rest of this season’s warm spells, though.
Before air conditioning can be added, facilities will have to upgrade the electrical system in each building to handle the energy strain, Dooley said, a process that could take months or even years.
