The Diamondback’s Tuesday editorial takes a harsh stand against the Department of Transportation Services’ ticketing policies and practices.
I want to comment on one aspect of this.
On two occasions during my 20 years at this university, I have personally observed DOTS issuing parking tickets to students who have parked in a virtually empty parking garage and parking lot on the final day of the semester. For example, the ticketed student last fall in the Mowatt Lane Parking Garage seemed only to be planning to bring stuff home from her room in South Campus Commons. DOTS should develop better policies to allow students some clean-out time at the end of semesters when the garages and parking lots are otherwise almost empty.
