LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Terrapins women’s basketball forward Alyssa Thomas was named an Associated Press First-Team All-American on Tuesday, marking the third time she has received an AP All-American honor.
Thomas was a First-Team All-American as a sophomore, and then earned second-team honors during her junior year. This year’s All-American selection is the latest accomplishment in a season with myriad accolades and broken records. Thomas won ACC Player of the Year for the third time in her career and recently passed legendary guard Juan Dixon as Terps basketball’s all-time leading scorer.
The Harrisburg, Pa., native joins Connecticut’s Breanna Stewart, Baylor’s Odyssey Sims, Notre Dame’s Kayla McBride and Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike on the all-America squad.
Thomas is averaging 19.1 points, 11 rebounds and 4.3 assists this season, recording 27 double-doubles and a nation-best four triple-doubles. The No. 4-seed Terps face No. 3-seed Louisville in the Elite Eight at the KFC Yum! Center on Tuesday night, with a trip to the Final Four in Nashville, Tenn., on the line.
Thomas enters the matchup after a career-high 33 points in their upset win over No. 1-seed Tennessee on Sunday.
