Police arrested the last of three suspects in an early August incident in which two men were robbed behind ZIPS Dry Cleaners on Route 1.
After detectives successfully identified the third suspect as Hashim Theodore Williams, 20, he turned himself in to Prince George’s County Police on Tuesday — one month after Andrew Hillocks, 21, turned himself in to police for his alleged involvement in the same crime.
Williams, of the 8800 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, has been charged with armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, using a handgun in a violent crime, stealing a credit card and theft of less than $1,000. He is being held by the Department of Corrections on an $80,000 bond.
Last month police arrested Chernor Jah, 19, for the same robbery after he allegedly used one of the victim’s credit cards at a 7-Eleven in Silver Spring.
During the incident, police said Williams, Jah and Hillocks approached the two men — one of whom is a student — at about 12:20 a.m. by the Quality Inn on Route 1.
Two of the suspects produced what appeared to be handguns, police said.
The victims then ran across the street toward ZIPS, but the attackers followed them. The three men got away with the victims’ cash, credit cards and shoes, police said.
At the time, police said the three assailants may have been present at the same party from which the victims were walking when the incident occurred, but police officials could not confirm this suspicion last night.
Hillocks and Jah were both ultimately identified by police after they reviewed surveillance video taken in the Silver Spring 7-Eleven.
State court records indicate Hillocks was released.
It is unclear whether Jah is still in custody.
Since students returned to the campus in late August, there have been a rash of robberies throughout the city.
Officials said police increased patrols of the area in response to the onslaught of crime — there were three crime alerts in the first week of classes alone.
However, police have not issued a crime alert since Oct. 3.
