There is something about the summer heat that not only sheds clothes but also brings out a more fashionable side of people.
Since we go one season without being plagued by cold weather, people are free to wear what their hearts desire. Unless that desire is a wool sweater because I would not recommend that.
To kick off our first blog together, let’s discuss some of the trends that are appearing in stores and on the runway this summer season.
Trend 1: Crop Tops
Not to get too controversial on the first blog post but when we are talking about summer trends, crop tops are unavoidable. They were shown all over the runways from designers like DKNY to BCBG Maxazria.
My advice when wearing crop tops: tread carefully.
The reason they are so controversial is because of their ability to reveal too much and look trashy. The best way to embrace the trend is to wear a cute crop structured tank top with a longer skirt.
The look on the left shows an example of a cleaner cut crop top and Miranda Kerr is wearing a similar look on the right.

Trend 2: Get Graphic
It is widely known that fashion is considered a form of self-expression. This summer trend takes that to a whole new meaning with the ability to say how you feel on your shirt. Wildfox shows this in their summer collection with shirts that express how we’re feeling, so we may not have to talk to people that day. Bold pattern graphics also made a big appearance on the summer 2014 runway shows like at the Mary Katrantzou show (right). So basically when shopping this summer, think bold verbally and graphically.

Trend 3: Shine On
When shopping for your outfits this summer, keep an eye out for something sparkly on the rack because metallic and shiny fabrics were shown often on the runway for summer 2014. Clothes that shine can be found on the website DailyLook [left] and this floral dress stays on trend and is cute for going out at night with friends. This metallic tweed dress [right] from Cusp would also work for a summer internship. Sometimes it is hard to remain professional and on trend, but this dress gives you the opportunity to do both.

The important thing to do this summer is to find the right trend that works for you and to rock that trend with confidence.
Have fun finding fashion,
