The women’s tennis team is focusing on results for this weekend’s matches against Richmond and Princeton.

Despite getting off to an 0-2 start and fielding one of the youngest teams in the country with only one junior, three sophomores and four freshmen, coach Martin Novak knows if his team keeps working and improving the results will come, and he hopes that starts this weekend.

“We’ve gone over what we need to improve on from last weekend, and we’ve definitely seen improvements in practice,” Novak said. “We’re playing for results and if we keep improving, we should get some.”

The Terps will go for their first win of the season today, when they host Richmond. Sunday, they will host Princeton, a team Novak spoke of highly.

“Princeton has been a good team for a while,” Novak said. “They’re always a very skilled team and recently they’ve added some really good recruiting classes. It should be a good test for us.”

However, Novak knows that this early in the season, building confidence, staying healthy and working as a team are the building blocks to success.

“We’re young, very young, and we’ve had some injuries that have slowed us down a bit,” he said. “We’re still searching and trying to find combinations that help the team win. We’re still in the improving phase, but we believe we can get the results we want.”
