THREE POINTERS
1. LOCK UP THE BLOCK
Virginia isn’t the type of team that pounds the ball inside, but the Terp post defenders will need to be more active down low than they had to be against N.C. State.
While the Wolfpack actually passed up open layup opportunities for 3-point attempts, the Cavalier guards are capable of taking the ball all the way to the rim.
Sean Singletary, J.R. Reynolds and Adrian Joseph are each able to punish opponents from the perimeter, but expect Ekene Ibekwe, James Gist and Will Bowers – who did a good job against N.C. State center Cedric Simmons – to play a bigger defensive role.
2. TIME FOR A HOME RUN
The Terps loss to North Carolina on Thursday was their first at home this season, and the team has said all along that it has to hold serve at the Comcast Center to be a competitor in the ACC this season.
The fans should be fired up to meet the rival Cavaliers, but may get frustrated if the Terps approach a fourth consecutive loss.
Even with Duke on the horizon, no one in College Park can take this game lightly.
3. ALL DAY D.J.
D.J. Strawberry has been hot and cold in the past three games. He went scoreless in three of the four halves against Temple and North Carolina before scoring 14 points Sunday.
Strawberry has been far more effective on the wing, but the Terps need him to be more consistent when he does run the point.
He turned the ball over at the end of the first half in Raleigh – costing the team a crucial two points – and missed an open 3-pointer that would have tied the game.
