A former Prince George’s County Police officer who beat a university student after the 2010 Duke riot has been sentenced to 30 days home detention, local media outlets report.
James Harrison was convicted of second-degree assault in October 2012 after he and another police offers were filmed assaulting a student. The other officer was not convicted. Today, Harrison received a suspended sentence and will serve 30 days in his home.
“I’m definitely glad some justice has been done today,” said John McKenna, the 24-year-old alumni who was beat in 2010. “It’s been a long two years for me and my family.”
