Demetri Martin

Dropping out of law school just a year away from graduation to become a stand-up comic probably doesn’t seem like the wisest idea. Thankfully, Demetri Martin didn’t mind taking the risk. If you haven’t been enjoying Martin’s unique brand of surrealist deadpan humor and multi-tasking comedy routines while watching the his sketch program, Important Things with Demetri Martin, then go out and see what you’ve been missing. The former Daily Show with Jon Stewart correspondent and Late Night with Conan O’Brien writer performs Saturday at the Warner Theatre, and it’s bound to be a treat. Show times are 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and tickets are $30.

Bajofondo

Couldn’t get a ticket to Katy Perry’s “surprise” concert tonight at the 9:30 Club (which she, of course, publicly announced back in November)? South American group Bajofondo and their alternative tango-meets-electro tunes will be at the Washington club Saturday if you decide to see an artist with talent instead. Featuring Gustavo Santaolalla, the two-time Oscar-winning composer responsible for crafting the beautifully understated scores to The Motorcycle Diaries, Brokeback Mountain and Babel, Bajofondo is unlikely to disappoint. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $25.

Lynn Redgrave

When Lynn Redgrave picked up her first Academy Award nomination for 1966’s Georgy Girl at the age of 23, she probably didn’t think another 32 years would pass before her next Oscar nod. But that’s exactly what happened to the actress whose career in film has spanned five decades, including her second nominated performance in 1998’s God and Monsters. Despite now being 66 years old, Redgrave’s energy and enthusiasm for theatrics does not appear to have waned. Starring in Rachel and Juliet, a one-woman show she created in tribute to her mother, actress Rachel Kempson, Redgrave will take to the stage tonight through Sunday with five performances at the Folger Theatre. Tickets are $50 to 60.
