Another misplaced pass proved costly for the Terrapins women’s soccer team Sunday afternoon.

Three days after numerous defensive mistakes led to a 5-0 loss to Notre Dame, another turnover on the Terps’ side of the field led to a 1-0 defeat at Virginia.

With less than a minute to go in the half, Terps midfielder Kristen Schmidbauer’s pass back was intercepted. Cavaliers forward Brittany Ratcliffe ended up with the ball and dribbled past Terps defenders Shade Pratt and Megan Gibbons to score her seventh goal of the season with a high shot to Beanlands’ right.

The Terps had some chances. Forward Hayley Brock took three shots, including one off the crossbar in the 57th minute. However, those chances were few and far between, especially when compared to the Cavaliers’ almost constant pressure and stream of shots at Beanlands’ goal.

Beanlands ended up with five saves off 21 Virginia shots. On the other end, the Terps recorded just nine shots and three shots on goal.

In the last 15 minutes of the match, the Terps did have three shots compared to zero for the Cavaliers, but none were on goal.
