The Terrapins field hockey team will enter its Sunday home opener on a high note after beating No. 8 Old Dominion 3-0 at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex in Norfolk, Va, on Friday.
Midfielder Anna Dessoye continued her strong play from last weekend with two goals, while goalkeeper Natalie Hunter made 10 saves to keep the Lady Monarchs off the board.
Dessoye remained dangerous in the half, outshooting the Lady Monarchs 6-5. She scored the first goal in the 14th minute off an assist from forward Alyssa Parker.
Old Dominion hit the post off a penalty corner in the 28th minute, but that was the closest the team got to score in the first period. One minute later, Dessoye doubled the Terps (3-0) lead.
The Lady Monarchs added more pressure in the second period, but Hunter denied them a route back into the game. She made six saves in the second period, three of which were in a one-minute span. Defender Ali McEvoy put the game out of reach with with a score in the 67th minute to make it 3-0.
The Terps will face No. 17 Drexel on Sunday at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex to start a five-game home stretch.
