Don’t miss out on this back-to-school concert
SEE UMD Presents: Back To School Slam Featuring 3LAU, XV and Carousel
When I first heard about this back to school concert featuring 3LAU, XV and Carousel, I couldn’t have been more excited. Student Entertainment Events is kicking the year off right with this event on Sept. 20 and it’s been bringing in better talent year after year. I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing 3LAU in concert, but there’s been non-stop praise for his festival sets all summer long. It’s crazy to see DJs evolve from when they first start out to now and I’m proud to have been there since the very beginning. What’s even more impressive is that 3LAU is only 21 years old and entering his senior year at Washington University in St. Louis. I highly suggest getting tickets to the Back to School Slam and seeing the plethora of talent that’s going to rock the stage at the Grand Ballroom in Stamp Student Union. Prepare yourself for the headliner by listening to his hit remix, ‘Back To New.’
Sol – 2020 and The Times (Featuring Grieves & Budo)
From college graduate to rap mogul, Sol has seen it all. This Seattle-based artist has been building up his repertoire over the past year and putting himself on the map. Using the funding platform Kickstarter, which encourages people to post creative ideas and create a community around their projects, Sol was able to garner enough support to build his first album, Yours Truly. He has my vote as the best newcomer for 2012, guaranteed. Listening to the many combinations of his beats and lyrics is very soothing and its amazing music to relax to. My favorite two tracks are titled 2020 and The Times, both of which bring a laid back vibe. His album is a must buy on iTunes. Start looking into more of his work and be sure to subscribe to his social media updates.
2 Chainz – No Lie (Explicit) ft. Drake & Based On A T.R.U. Story Album
2 Chainz is on a roll right now. After dropping his new album, Based On A T.R.U. Story, last week, he’s riding pretty high and has got a lot going for him. With appearances from Drake, Kanye West and now Nicki Minaj on his tracks, 2 Chainz is building quite the entourage and there’s no where but up for this Georgia-based rapper. Be on the look out for his tour dates and if you were around Washington on Sept. 2, I would hope you caught his show at the 9:30 club. His biggest hit right now is ‘No Lie’ featuring Drake and it’s on all of my homework playlists. If you haven’t already checked out his album, I’d suggest giving it a quick look on iTunes.
