Gen. David Petraeus
Hey guys, you’ll never believe what happened! A politician cheated on his wife! And to think he had so much potential.
Yes, yes. Gen. David Petreaus (now former CIA Director) did us good, proving to us once again that if you don’t want everyone in the entire country to know that you cheated on your wife then DON’T GET CAUGHT.
This Petreaus affair is a little different though. This is the head of the CIA we’re talking about here. Because of Petreaus’s unique political position, his exposé becomes a question of national security.
This Petreaus case seems like news that could stick around for a while. As time drags on more developments in the case will arise and, unless the details are really juicy, people will probably start to get sick of hearing the guy’s name.
Meanwhile in the Executive Branch …
President Barack Obama started crying in his video thanking a crowd of those who helped him win. Some people will say that makes him more human, others will say it makes him seem too vulnerable, and others still will just call him a pansy. But those sweet, delicious tears were just byproducts of what was a very emotional election, one in which Barry O won, to the dismay and horror of this guy:
And to many others out there as well. Apparently all over the country petitions have been filed to secede from the Union. They want to do it “peacefully.” It’s not going to happen, don’t worry, it just shows how polarized this country’s become.
Note: While some of these people trying to secede are progressive thinkers, I’m going to assume most of them are just desperate. They’re desperate republicans. To no avail, though, if Mitt Romney had won the election there would be just as many desperate democrats trying to do the exact same thing.
Of the states listed in the linked article, none had more signatures on a petition than Texas. So now I invite you to live in my hypothetical world where Texas is independent once again:
The U.S. economy would probably be turned upside down, and Texas would immediately be considered a developed country with strong trade relationships around the world. The new country’s geography would favor it as well, with ports in the Gulf of Mexico having easy access to the Atlantic Ocean and the Panama Canal.
It’d be interesting to see how their foreign policy would pan out. Who knows, maybe Mexico would see it as an opportunity to reclaim what was once theirs.
And on that note, this Mexican-American writer has decided it’s best end the hypothetical journey there. Happy belated Veteran’s Day!
