University Police issued a tornado warning Wednesday afternoon in a safety alert sent to the university community.
At about 12:40 p.m., campus police announced a tornado warning had been issued for the city of College Park and encouraged people to seek shelter during the heavy downpour. By about 1 p.m., police said the warning was no longer a threat.
“The threat for tornadic activity around our campus has diminished and an ‘all clear’ has been issued for this round of storms,” University Police wrote in a tweet at 1:09 p.m.
The storm caused no significant water damage to buildings on campus, said Jack Baker, Facilities Management operations and maintenance director.
There was no other reported damage on campus, said National Weather Service meteorologist Carl Barnes.
