Days after being named to his first watch list of the summer, Terrapins football wide receiver Stefon Diggs was named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award by the Maxwell Football Club.

The Maxwell Award is given annually to “America’s College Player of the Year,” and was won by former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o in 2012. Diggs is one of 76 players and 10 sophomores on the watch list, which includes Texas A&M quarterback and defending Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel, South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron.

Diggs was named to the Hornung Award Watch List on Friday.

USA Today’s Paul Myerberg and Daniel Uthman ranked Diggs as the 20th-best player on the Maxwell Award Watch List.

The sophomore caught 54 passes for 848 yards and six touchdowns in 2012. He ranked eighth nationally with 172.4 all-purpose yards per game and averaged 28.52 yards per kickoff return.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Oct. 26 and finalists will be announced Nov. 25. The award will be handed out Dec. 12 at the Home Depot College Football Awards.
