This university’s students have more reason to be excited for The Muppets than just about anyone else. After all, the university is the alma mater of Jim Henson, the man responsible for creating Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of the Muppet gang.

Not surprisingly, many students have fond childhood memories of the Muppets and their adventures on film and television. Below is a sampling of students’ favorite felt freaks.

“I had a lot of stuffed bears when I was younger, so Fozzy Bear reminds me of my childhood.”

– Samantha Ammons, sophomore, psychology

”I like Gonzo because he’s a quirky oddball. He can’t really be defined.”

– Andrea Hubbell, freshman, letters and sciences

”There’s a nice Kermit the Frog statue beside Stamp. I like the values Kermit stands for, like being yourself.”

– Ryan Harshman, sophomore, accounting

”‘I’m not Jimmy-Jim-Jimmy-Jim-Jim-Jim-Jim.’ Gonzo’s reactions in Muppet Treasure Island made for perfect punchlines with perfect deliveries. That’s why he’s awesome.”

– Josh Koehler, sophomore, computer engineering

”Miss Piggy [is my favorite] because she is spunky and sassy.”

– Tenbeete Solomon, sophomore, business

”[I like] Rizzo the Rat because he’s very social. He has his own little group or posse. He’s a leader, and he knows how to find adventure.”

– Maya Fromme, freshman, economics
